Are there no better colleges in Penang?

>> Monday, December 21, 2009

Time flies and I know you hear this all the time. People talking about how fast a year has gone by without any notice. So its time to think about how this year went by, what happen and what didn't, what could have and wouldn't have happened. Well, this year was an interesting year for me. At last, I have completed my Diploma in Business. I thought that it would be a very special day but it wasn't. It was just an ordinary day, a day just like any other day. I mean come on, I've been thinking and wanting to leave KDU 6 months after I'm in that college and finally I'm out of it. But still, Woohooo... it means I'm on my path to my degree now.

Talking about my degree. Well, Finance and Economics would be the perfect majors for me. At least I think it fits me. Sadly, such a program doesn't exist or it does but there is none here in Penang. Guess I will have to settle with Accounting and Finance. I thought to myself, "well... accounting, how bad can that be? Worst that can happen is that I'll grow grey hairs when I reach the age of 35 trying to balance out the balance sheet." Hahaha... Either that or I'll pull out all my hairs trying to figure out the budget. LOL

Anyway, I went to Disted's open day which was held recently. Upon a recommendation from a friend/mentor, I was suppose to consult someone. Sadly, that someone was busy counseling another potential student so I was assigned to two young ladies. Let me be straight up with you guys, I really really really thought they (the two young ladies) are from the marketing department. When they told me they are the actual lecturers for the program, I was actually quite stunned and ... yeah, I was totally stunned. There is no reason for me not to be stunned when you find out the conversation that we had.

I asked them a few questions. Most important question is definitely what program do they have to offer? Well, straight on from that moment, they kept on yapping about their Staffordshire program and continue to persist that its a program from the UK. It was as if the whole selling point of the program was that it is from the UK. I mean awww... I've been through this before and I was beginning to get annoyed.

I proceed, a program from the UK huh? Well, KDU has a program from the UK too. If I'm not mistaken, according to the Times Good University Guide ranking, Staffordshire stands at 70++. On the other hand, Keele stands at 40++ on the same ranking chart. So, is ranking important? Does it really makes any significant differences? They said it is without elaborating further. Obviously, they were not trying that hard to convince me to sign up for their program. By saying that it is and stop there is no difference from telling me that, "yeah, the program in KDU should be better." So now, do you understand why I was stunned when they told me that they are the lecturer? And ohhh, I almost forgot. I did asked them about the lecturer to student ratio, the permanent lecturer to part-timer ratio to which they replied, "Don't worry." Wonderful! Just what I need to hear.

Arghhh!!!! Are there no better colleges here in Penang? Seriously, is INTI my best bet? I've to consider this matter through and through and hope I don't make a mistake and end up just like what happen in KDU, too high of an expectation made of me, too low of a perceived quality delivered.

P/s: Dollhouse is getting better and better. I just love it. Fox TV is very dumb to not renew it for a new season. I am beginning to like all those weird weird movies. Recently, I downloaded the Matrix Trilogy, all the three movies in 3 days. It was and still is an awesome movie, provided you get the whole hardware and software, real world and the matrix thingy and the storyline.

An interesting conversation

Are human born stupid or is stupidity developed from a sum of experiences? As far as my memory serves me, I could still recall that one of my course mates joked about an 8th sin which is stupidity. Hahaha, guess Jesus might have missed this one out while listing out the numbers of sins. [No offense to any Christians and I hope none are taken. No intention to ridicule any religion, its just another stupid joke] Anyway, I am just talking nonsense, so forgive me. Perhaps I am just a little bored. I tried to watch Dollhouse but the video doesn't seem to buffer. The connection will just disconnect any second. I guess the culprit is none other than the ultra unreliable and super slow Streamyx.

So, while staying online, I had this conversation with my friend. She is a bit cuckoo at times. Hmmm... she said that all men are "chin tok" (very evil in hokkien). "Tok" in hokkien language may also mean poisonous. So I'm taking a different perspective here and understanding that she meant "evil" but translating it as "poisonous". So I said to the wise lady, "so if all men are evil, then all women are stupid". The simplest explanation to my reply to her is that, "if women know and are aware that men are "evil/poisonous", why are there still so many women crying and chasing after evil/poisonous men?" Well, doesn't it make any sense to you? If you know that something is evil/poisonous or say that its something arsenic, would you still dare to take it and face the death penalty of dying due to poisoning? If you have a rationale mind, my guess is you wouldn't. But the case here is, I am proven wrong because I believe and have seen with my own eyes, plenty of times, that plenty of women/girl are crying and chasing after evil/poisonous men. So that would only mean one thing, which is, women/girl are stupid.

Nevertheless, there is always the counter effect. The yin to the yang. The black and the white. [My nonsense again] This thing actually occur in both gender. There are also women who are "chin tok"(hahaha, pleasure in saying it) and men who are just ... grrrrr... I just want to smack their head. So that would make things equal, wouldn't you think so? which brings me to my conclusion, that ALL MEN AND WOMEN ARE BOTH EVIL AND STUPID. Hahahaha... or it could mean that love is blind, just like what Alicia Keys said in her song, "its too bad cause love is blind".

P/s: If you use Windows Live Messenger, you will see that there's an ad down below, TM Super Deal Package or something similar that encourage you to upgrade to a higher speed at a fraction of a cost. What the hell, do they seriously think we are stupid? I mean, those who really did upgrade their lines and paid that fraction of a cost, !@#$ you must have been extremely stupid or just plain dumb for letting them cheating you that fraction of a cost for what I think wouldn't be any improvement in their service. Anyhow, I am just stereotyping and somewhat pissed off cause I can't watch Dollhouse.

After more than a month of waiting since I applied for the degree program at INTI, I finally receive the offer letter yesterday. After more than a month of signing in into Gmail every single morning hoping to receive a reply from either INTI or Curtin, the wait is over. Upon receiving a call from INTI's staff, I rushed straight away to the campus to collect my offer letter. I was very anxious and pretty curious of the exemptions that might be granted. Now that the offer letter is in my hand, I am somewhat devastated. Sighhhh....

I was really hoping that I could at least be granted entry into year 2 but guess the people at INTI or Curtin is rather stingy. Grrrr!!! I only receive a 7 subject exemption which should equate to about slightly more than half a year. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I really don't know what I should do. The offer doesn't seem to be so attractive but by looking at the trend, I don't really think I can get a better offer elsewhere (except STUPID KDU). Well at heart, I really want to leave Penang and probably head down to KL but at mind, I kept questioning myself how much different would it be there or anywhere in Malaysia for that matter (except Australia). Geee... I'm so complicated!!!!! I still can't make up my mind. Anyway, that's for now, I'll keep you guys updated...
