My motto for this year

>> Saturday, January 02, 2010

I took this from Facebook. It was written by a friend of mine during his class. Well, why don't you check it out? I figure good notes should be shared with everyone.

CLARITY ABOUT THE FUTURE

One day, a man faced God and asked, God what future do YOU have for me?

God answered, Son, if I showed you your future, would you still be the man I want you to be?

Just like this man, we are all so eager to know our future. We are so impatient for life to unfold in front of us. Yet, if we really knew the future, would it bring us comfort or only the crushing of all hope? By knowing the future, wouldn't all the mysteries and infinite possibilities of life fade away?

Would a sunrise be more majestic? Would a feast be more scrumptious? Would I be loved more just because we know my end?

Knowing the future is a paradox wrapped in an enigma. For in knowing more, the more we also fail to understand. Even if the the future was laid out clearly for us, seeing leads not to solice and acceptance but only to despair and doubt. Despair that we know so much and can do so little, doubt that we see a destiny but grow powerless to change it.

To know the future is like realizing approaching death. And just like death, its realization comes in five stages, DENIAL, ANGER, BARGAINING, DEPRESSION and finally ACCEPTANCE. Denial that it can't be so. Anger that every road leads to one destination. Bargaining for just a little more time to turn things around. Depression that we deserve so much more. And acceptance that all hope has been extinguished.

Then maybe ignorance is indeed bliss. And perhaps we do not need to know the future to have clarity. All we might need to know is that we do not have to walk alone along future's dark hallways!

What says you? Do you agree? Well, I agree. Its true that as human we are always driven to know more, it is as if knowing more, knowing what the future has install for us will give us more power or control. Perhaps its human nature that we become restless when faced with the unending uncertainties. Sadly, the irony is the future is just too hard for us to handle. Just like what was said in the note, if we know our future, will it bring comfort or will if crush all hopes? I mean if you know that you're going to be married to a very fat and ugly wife 5 years from now, will you just commit suicide jumping off a cliff or the Penang bridge cause its not your college or high school sweetheart? Now that's a good example. Or perhaps if you know that you're going fail badly in life despite all your academic qualification, will you be happy knowing that for the rest of your life, you'll be stuck in a small cubicle doing admin stuff earning peanuts for your family? Now that certainly kills the fun in life.

Who knows what you'll find at the end of a corner? It might be a wall, it might be the end the road or maybe there's still a long road ahead. Just accept what life throws at you and save yourself the grief. My motto for this year, Just let it be and go with the flow. I'm so tired of planning this and that, wanting to do this or that; I figure why don't I just live life one moment at a time. If its mine, its mine. If its not, then I will just have to learn to let go and forget about it. Ever heard of the saying, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life"? Wow!!! Nevertheless, at the end of the day, its always comforting to know that there's always someone beside you, guiding you, supporting you... someone to always share both your sorrow and happiness.
